Coronavirus in Mexico today: 3,353 deaths and 33,460 confirmed cases The five cities with the highest transmission intensity in the country are Mexico City, Villahermosa, Canc?n, Culiac?n, and Tijuana
    May 10, 2020

The Ministry of Health (SSa) reported this Saturday, May 9, that the accumulated COVID-19 infections are 33,460. Furthermore, since the beginning of the epidemic, Mexico has suffered 3,353 fatalities.

Jos? Luis Alom?a, General Director of Epidemiology, reported that today's evening conference is number 71, and that 48 days have passed since the National Day of Healthy Distance.

On the international scene, confirmed and active cases (from April 26 to May 9) by region, according to the World Health Organization, are concentrated in the Americas: 589,333 cases or 51.2 percent. Europe registers 381,625 cases or 33.2 percent. The total number of confirmed cases worldwide is 3,855,812, but those confirmed in the last 14 days are 1,150,146 or 30 percent. The global case fatality rate remains at 6.9 percent.

In the country there are 8,283 confirmed active cases, which represent the active epidemic in the country. There are 73,801 negative cases, 20,887 suspects, and a total of 128,148 people studied.

Among the confirmed cases accumulated by federative entity of residence as of May 9, most are concentrated in Mexico City with 9,218, the State of Mexico with 5,710, and Baja California with 2,365. The smallest number of cases are in Zacatecas with 140, Durango with 109, and Colima with 38.

The entities with the highest number of active epidemics are Mexico City with 2,152 cases, the State of Mexico with 1,179, and Tabasco with 388. Campeche and Zacatecas with 59, Baja California Sur and Durango with 37, and Colima with 9 are the least.

The incidence rate of active cases in the country per 100,000 inhabitants is 6.48. The highest rates are found in Mexico City, Tabasco, and Morelos. The minors in Durango, Oaxaca, and Colima.

In the distribution of accumulated deaths by date, there are 252 suspicious deaths that may or may not become confirmed. The upward trend hasn't changed since April 25 or 26, Alomy said.

Most of the deaths in the country have been registered in Mexico City, Baja California, and the State of Mexico. The minors in San Luis Potos?, Durango, and Colima.

The confirmed and suspicious cases show what is the trend of the epidemic curve at the national level, “remembering that each of the regions that have been prioritized for having the greatest burden, among all are contributing and adding to this national curve, but each of them it has a temporality, a magnitude, and a different slope ”, reported Alom?a.

The epidemic curve of total cases of COVID-19 in Mexico reports that 1,939 new confirmed cases were registered in the last 24 hours, an increase of 6.1% the previous day.

Regarding occupation and hospital availability as of May 8, the IRAG Network reported that there are 13,917 IRAG beds available and 7,025 (34%) occupied. There are 687 reporting hospitals, but only 660, 96%, notified the system.

The availability of general hospital beds is 27% in Mexico City, 41% in Baja California, and 46% in the State of Mexico. The highest availability is in San Luis Potos? with 95%, Quer?taro with 96%, and Colima with 97 percent. “These are proportions that have been maintained and are given based on how many patients, each day, leave and vacate the bed. Also with the hospital restructuring and expansion works that are being implemented nationwide, "said Alomia.

Among the availability of ventilated beds for critically ill patients, there is 59% occupancy in Mexico City, 52% in the State of Mexico, and 48% in Sinaloa. The lowest percentages are Aguascalientes and Durango with 7%, Jalisco and Zacatecas with 6%, and Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Sonora with 5 percent.

At the press conference this Friday, Hugo L?pez-Gatell, Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, reported that the five cities with the highest transmission intensity in the country are Mexico City, Villahermosa in Tabasco, Canc?n in Quintana Roo , Culiac?n in Sinaloa, and Tijuana in Baja California.

L?pez-Gatell stated that in the COVID-19 epidemic and in other diseases of epidemiological interest there is not a single epidemic curve. In small countries where there is "high" population density or physical proximity between cities, for example, the epidemic can be synchronized throughout an entire territory, he reported.

"But in large countries like Mexico, the United States, Brazil, Russia, China, and India, it is as if they were multiple countries in the sense that each city, sometimes each state, synchronizes an epidemic by itself, but the dates are different occurrence compared to others, "he added.

The undersecretary reaffirmed that this dynamic is “very good news” because it allows efforts to be focused on the five cities with the highest transmission intensity.

Coronavirus in Mexico today: 3,465 dead and 35,022 confirmed cases The Ministry of Health reports daily the progress of COVID-19 in the country at press conferences held at the National Palace
      May 11, 2020

The Ministry of Health (SSa) reported this Sunday, May 10, from the National Palace that the cases of coronavirus registered in Mexico are 35,022 and 3,465 deaths.

Dr. Hugo L?pez-Gatell, Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, read the technical report at the evening press conference number 72, where he indicated the progress of COVID-19 in each state and indicated the most affected entities after 49 days of the implementation of the National Day of Healthy Distance.

Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Tabasco, Veracruz and Baja California are the five entities with the most confirmed cases; those that carry less are Campeche, Zacatecas, Baja California Sur, Durango and Colima.

The incidence rate of active cases in the country per 100,000 inhabitants is 6.48. The highest rates are found in Mexico City, Tabasco, and Morelos. The minors in Durango, Oaxaca, and Colima.

It should be noted that according to the official estimates of the SSa and UNAM, this week should have been the week with the highest transmission of SARS-CoV-2, this means that from the following week, the numbers of new cases They must be smaller compared to those registered in the last days.

Regarding the epidemic curve, health officials indicate that everything is going as expected; however, they do not let their guard down or rule out any other scenario in the face of new outbreaks or new factors that determine some type of change in transmission.

Likewise, L?pez-Gatell urged the population to continue with social isolation to avoid the collapse of medical units throughout the national territory.

Likewise, during yesterday's conference, the public servant indicated the availability of the beds of general hospitals for the treatment of coronavirus and pointed out that of the cities with the most cases, they are not yet outnumbered or with the need to transport patients to other entities to improve the quality of service, since in the national capital there is still an availability of 27%, in the entity governed by Alfredo del Mazo it has 46% and 41% for the border state of Baja California.

Regarding the item of mechanical fans, in CDMX there is still 41%, 48% in Edomex and 52% in Sinaloa.

"There is nothing defined, there is a general proposal from the Ministry of Health, but it is being worked on day by day. A daily evaluation is made of what the possible behavior would be like at the end of the month and the conditions of the called de-escalation, ”said L?pez Arellano.

Coronavirus in Mexico today: 4,767 deaths and 45,032 confirmed cases, President Andr?s Manuel L?pez Obrador said that this week it is expected to live "the most difficult days" in relation to the pandemic caused by COVID-19
                  May 16, 2020

The Ministry of Health (SSa) reported this Friday, May 15 that the accumulated COVID-19 infections are 45,032. Furthermore, since the beginning of the epidemic, Mexico has suffered 4,767 fatalities.

During the morning conference this Thursday, President Andr?s Manuel L?pez Obrador said that this week it is expected that "the most difficult days" will be lived in relation to the pandemic caused by COVID-19.

The president stressed that the economic reactivation will begin with the so-called "Municipalities of Hope", which are the localities in which there have been no cases of contagion by COVID-19 and that they will have a review by a specialized sanitary fence to review the evolution of return to activities.

At the beginning, economic activities and schools will return, the latter being the ones that will face the greatest restriction to restart activities.

On the other hand, the head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, said in a press conference that the government has always said that there are more deaths caused by COVID-19 than those reported to the authorities, reiterating that the Valley of Mexico Zone is the most affected area in the country since it has the highest number of positive cases registered.

Sheinbaum Pardo also explained that this is an inherent part of any deadly epidemic, since in order to have the exact number of deaths, tests should be applied to those with similar symptoms or, in any case, an evaluation committee is established.

Coronavirus in Mexico: 5,177 deaths and 49,219 confirmed cases, the Ministry of Health reports the progress of COVID-19 in Mexico from the National Palace
                        May 18, 2020

According to the technical report of the Ministry of Health (SSa), until this Sunday, May 17, 49,219 accumulated cases and 5,177 deaths from coronavirus have been confirmed in Mexico.

This was announced by Hugo L?pez-Gatell, undersecretary for health promotion and prevention, at the press conference held at the National Palace.

During the conference led by the SSa Undersecretary, reference was also made to the entities with the most confirmed cases of COVID-19, where Mexico City, Baja California and the State of Mexico are the entities that lead the list; while Zacatecas, Durango, and Colima, are the three with the least record.

Among other advances in Mexico regarding SARS-CoV-2, a group of academics from the Autonomous University of Quer?taro (UAQ) developed an experimental protocol for the detection of coronaviruses, which represents a low-cost alternative test.

In a period between April 1 and May 12, they detected 271 cases of COVID-19. It should be noted that it is a project that was implemented a week after Phase 2 due to coronavirus was decreed in Mexico, in order to contribute to the detection of cases.

Dr. Karina Acevedo Whitehouse indicated for the magazine Proceso that the test in which they work at the UAQ, "because although it is not infallible, we do not have false positives at all, and we have so far 271 reagents that are within 3,000 samples ”.

This news comes a little late for Mexico, because in relation to the massive application of tests, the health authorities explained that it was no longer a priority because the number of infections is massive and the most effective at this time of the pandemic is the National Day of Healthy Distance.

According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), in Mexico 0.4 tests are applied for every 1,000 inhabitants, thus, the Aztec country is located in the lowest position of the 36 countries belonging to the organization in COVID-19 test application line.
