Speculations about Mexico's first death appeared on Sunday as the Mexican media reported the country's first Covid-19 death late night on March 15. The Mexican businessman Jose Kuri Harfush, reports said, passed away at the age of 71 after being tested positive for Covid-19. He had gone on a trip to the US recently. Kuri Harfush is the cousin of billionaire Carlos Slim.

Reuters reported that two sources close to the businessman confirmed his death and said that Kuri died in the ABC hospital in Mexico City and the citizens have been alarmed over the arrangements and information gap about the deadly virus in the country.

After posts about the death surfaced, the Mexican Ministry of Health said that the man is in a critical condition and has not passed away as reported in certain sections of media. But, the Mexican media has not changed the stance on the businessman's death so far.

Coronaviruses in Mexico reach 82, reports Salud
The new balance represents an increase of 29 confirmed cases in a single day, after 53 were registered this Sunday.
          Mon March 16, 2020 07:19 PM

Mexico opened this new week with a balance of 82 confirmed cases of Covid-19 coronavirus, the Secretary of Health of the federal government reported Monday night.

The new figure represents an increase of 29 confirmed cases in a single day. In the Sunday night outage, the country registered a total of 53 infected people.

So far, the country has not recorded deaths from Covid-19, although some patients are reported to be in serious condition. The undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo L?pez-Gatell, reported at the daily press conference to follow up on the issue that there are three citizens in that condition.

In addition, 171 other suspected cases are registered in the country.

The new report was released on the day off on the occasion of the birth of Benito Ju?rez.

For this Tuesday, the country will resume regular activities, although at least five states in the country and several universities have decided to immediately advance and apply the suspension of classes, as a measure to prevent contagion.

The states that decided to advance the suspension of classes for this March 17 are Guanajuato, Jalisco, Yucatan, Tamaulipas and Michoac?n.

Undersecretary L?pez-Gatell said in this regard that, although the decision of those states was "unilateral", it does not have negative consequences.

Previously, the federal government had proposed that the suspension of classes begin after Friday, March 20 and extend until April 20, in order to prevent contagion in schools.

This measure is part of the "national healthy distance day" launched by the federal authorities to face the expansion of the coronavirus.

The Ministry of Health insists that this plan is not equivalent to an extension of the vacations, but to a sanitary measure destined to stop the expansion of a virus that to this day has infected more than 167,000 people in the world and caused death over 6,000.

Covid-19 Conference: In Mexico there are already 367 confirmed cases and 826 suspects
                          March 23, 2020

In a press conference, authorities of the Ministry of Health reported updated data on the progress of the coronavirus in Mexico and the world.

Hugo L?pez-Gatell, Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, reported that 332 thousand 930 cases are reported worldwide.

The coronavirus case fatality rate increased to 4.4 percent.

In the national panorama, he explained that the number of confirmed cases increased 367 cases, 826 suspected cases under analysis and 1,856 cases discarded through laboratory tests.

He stressed that this Monday, 51 new confirmed cases were detected.

L?pez-Gatell announced that four deaths have also died in Mexico from the coronavirus, two in Mexico City, one in Jalisco and the other in Durango.

Of the total confirmed cases, 63 percent are men and 37 percent women, with a median age of 39 years.

In addition, L?pez-Gatell indicated that of the 367 confirmed cases, 89 percent were treated on an outpatient basis and 11 percent required hospitalization.

Hugo L?pez-Gatell added that of the total of confirmed cases, which is 367, 291 are imported cases, 70 are cases associated with importation, and 5 are cases with no identifiable import history.

The Undersecretary of Health estimated that, as happened with Asia, and later Europe, America will become the main focus of cases in a few weeks.

The official recalled that the population must take into account and implement prevention measures, such as the use of antibacterial gel, constant hand washing for at least 20 seconds, and maintain a healthy distance from people.

Five deceased and 405 confirmed in Mexico by Covid-19

Mexico, Mar 24 (Prensa Latina) Mexico registered another deceased by Covid-19, a woman, and now they reach five, while those confirmed increased to 405, Health specialists reported today in the usual evening conference at the National Palace.

The director of Epidemiology, Jos? Luis Alom?a Zegarra, reported that the largest number of cases are concentrated in the capital, the state of Mexico, Jalisco and Nuevo Le?n, and the total accumulated cases total 1,291 but they will continue to increase.

Of the total affected only 10 percent required hospitalization and 90 percent received outpatient care and isolation at home. Seven percent were in a stable clinical state and two percent were severe.

Deaths and morbidity percentage were 70 percent due to obesity, diabetes, hypertension and kidney failure, and other collateral diseases. The death rate is well below the international level, he said.

The undersecretary of Prevention, Hugo L?pez-Gatell, official spokesperson for the epidemic, reiterated that Mexico prepared very well from the beginning of the disease, which enabled the entire health system to be activated to broadly apply the repertoire of interventions and control of problem management.

He explained that the mitigation repertoire aims to reduce the contagion curve and slow down the transmission of the virus, thus delaying the peak of the epidemic, that there are fewer cases per day and that the level of hospital care is not exceeded.

He considered it extremely important to define the critical moment of the evolution of the epidemic in order to implement the corresponding measures at the appropriate time without affecting the community or losing its usefulness. It is what they technically call opportunity, and it is what has allowed Mexico to face this challenge.

He said that the ideal point for interventions is when the rapid increase in cases begins, which occurred in Mexico on the 23rd of this month with the five cases of community contagion, and that is when the healthy distance journey begins to be applied as had been programmed.

Mexico disclosed in the morning conference of President Andr?s Manuel L?pez Obrador a set of measures that intensifies the battle against Covid-19, which already keeps a significant part of the population locked up in their homes and very few people in the streets.
