The Ministry of Health announced that in Mexico 14,677 positive cases of COVID-19 have been detected, of which only 4,972 are still active, the total accumulated amounts to an increase of 77.6%, compared to last week. Meanwhile, 1,351 deaths were registered, that is, the deaths doubled in the same period.
Last Sunday, April 19, the country recorded 8,261 positive cases and 686 deaths. This was before Tuesday, the federal government declared Phase 3 of the epidemic, characterized by active outbreaks and spread in the territory with more than 1,000 cases.
Jose Luis Alom?a, general director of Epidemiology, announced that 67,635 people have been studied, and 45,346 negative cases have been detected. In total, 15 states are the ones that register more than 250 cases, while Mexico City is the one with the most cases.
In a week, practically in all the states, the cases were doubled, with a few exceptions such as Sonora, Jalisco and Campeche, while other entities the numbers increased exponentially, as is the case of Mexico City, which has been considered the epicenter of the epidemic.
This Sunday, the head of the CDMX government, Claudia Sheinbaum, reported from April 12 to April 26, the number of people intubated went from 265 to 685, that is, that in 14 days it tripled, due to the increase in cases during Phase 3.
He also warned that there are expected to be more cases this week. "We are currently at the most critical stage of contagion in the country and, particularly, in the metropolitan area," he said at a press conference.
86 suspicious deaths
Jos? Luis Alom?a explained that 86 suspected deaths are still being reviewed, also the majority in Mexico City, followed by Baja California.
"The death curve has been upward since April 15, showing a more stable trend in how these deaths have occurred," he said.
According to the presentation made by the health authorities, the highest incidence of cases is presented by Mexico City, Tabasco and Quintana Roo.

The official said there are already eight more hospitals that can care for patients with COVID-1. With this, it was increased to 11,634 beds, that is, 319 more than yesterday.
So far, there are 3,358 employed. In 24 hours, in the country, eight more cases were added that require hospitalization for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
"We expect the curve to go up. Follow the call to the population to stay home. It depends on this that the beds are vacated in the following days and receive new people who require it and that it does not advance until reaching a degree that shows saturation, "said Jos? Luis Alom?a.
Zacatecas and Hidalgo have not reduced mobility
The Ministry of Health also announced how much mobility has decreased in the states. In entities such as Zacatecas, only a reduction of 16% has been achieved, the same occurs in Hidalgo, which has decreased 29%.
"Durango, Hidalgo and Guerrero we see mobility that does not decrease, less than 50%, the rest of the states, like Mexico City, has reduced 57%, Guanajuato with a similar level of 55% and Jalisco also with a mobility decreased by 62% ”, said Ricardo Cort?s, head of Health Promotion.
The official invited the population to continue with the National Day of Healthy Distance, to continue with the mitigation and reduce contagions, so he asked to take the appropriate measures to carry out his activities from home.
These estimates are made by Conacyt, with data from Google, Facebook and Twitter.
For his part, L?pez-Gatell said that they are concerned about the fact that, in some municipalities, the police are being used as a coercion mechanism to reduce public mobility.
The official explained that the specific administrative actions with which the reduction can be achieved are in the hands of state governments and municipal authorities, but he rejected the use of public force for this.
"We have said that, from a technical point of view, this is not the preferred way to reduce public mobility. For many reasons; one, because the health security provisions were designed so that the subject of the intervention was not people, and two because we are aware that in Mexico half the population lives daily, "he said.
He added that using public force not only commits actions that can make the intervention less effective, but could also result in an increased risk of contagion.
"Public health is designed and proposed. These mechanisms cannot be improvised and it should not be forgotten that there is no State of emergency in any way. At no time has the suspension of individual guarantees been ordered," assured.
