          May 23, 2020

This Saturday, May 23, Mexico recorded 7,179 deaths, 65,856 accumulated confirmed cases and 14,253 active infections of COVID-19, informed the general director of Epidemiology Jos? Luis Alom?a Zegarra.

The official also said that there are 118,137 negative cases and 31,663 are suspected, out of a total of 215,656 tests carried out to this day in Mexico.

Mexico City, Baja California, and the State of Mexico continue to lead the list of entities with the highest number of SARS-CoV-2 infections and deaths. By contrast, Aguascalientes, Durango, and San Luis Potos? are the three with the lowest number of deaths.

It should be remembered that next Saturday, May 30, the National Sana Distancia Day ends, a measure adopted by the Mexican government to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus in Mexico. However, the pandemic of this new virus, which emerged in China in December last year, will continue to wreak havoc on the country.

Given this, the undersecretary of health, Hugo L?pez-Gatell, warned that from June 1 a new phase called “new normality” begins, made up of a series of measures that may or may not be carried out in public spaces.

This past Friday the 22nd, it was the deadliest day of the epidemic in the country with 479 deaths in a 24-hour period, in addition 2,960 new infections were registered just eight days after the National Day of Healthy Distance, in which the opening of shops will be gradual according to the corresponding traffic light.

Meanwhile, Mexicans who have died in the United States due to COVID-19 already added 1,036, according to data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), which also announced that New York is the entity with the highest number of deaths with 671. Then there is California, with 103; and in the end was Illinois, Chicago, with 73.

Mexico is among the 10 countries with the most deaths related to COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus that emerged in China at the end of last year, according to a Reuters count.

The undersecretary of Health, Hugo L?pez-Gatell has recognized that the number of infections and deaths would be underestimated in the country.

COVID-19 in Mexico: 9,415 deaths and 84,627 confirmed cases, due to the lack of response from the authorities and the need to join forces, the country's health personnel formed the National Union of Health Workers of Mexico
                            May 29, 2020

The Ministry of Health (SSa) reported this Friday, May 29 that the accumulated COVID-19 infections are 84,627. Furthermore, since the beginning of the epidemic, Mexico has suffered 9,415 fatalities.

Health personnel gathered this Friday in front of the National Palace of Mexico City to demand that real figures of the infected and deceased professionals be provided and that protection against the coronavirus crisis in Mexico be strengthened.

“We ask to open a table so that they know the reality of the workers; recognition of dead comrades, no applause or medals, we don't want to be heroes, we want to stay alive and keep patients alive; and we demand tools for our work, ”Rafael Soto, a nurse at the Cardiology hospital at the Siglo XXI National Medical Center, told EFE.

"The official figures that they have do not coincide with real numbers, we believe that they may be quite a few more deceased colleagues and that is why one of the immediate and most important demands is that they give us an official list with names, hospitals, registrations and origin ”, claimed Soto.

Also, according to Francisco, also a nurse but from the Xoco Hospital, in the south of the city, many of the infected professionals have to return to work in a few days. And, he added, some hired for the occasion have not yet received their wages and are frightened at the idea of contracting the disease.

For weeks, health personnel have been complaining about the lack of protection they are experiencing during this crisis in which, they say, they should be very well prepared to be able to serve the population as well as possible.

The solution for the authorities to act in accordance with the difficulties of hospital personnel is, Soto said, a real approach to the day to day of a hospital like yours, where there is not enough space to properly care for patients and not even they have N95 masks, the recommended model.

Given the lack of response from the authorities and the need to join forces, the country's health personnel formed the National Union of Health Workers of Mexico, which arises, said Soto, to approach the authorities and ask them to work together .

"I think (the authorities) are very concerned but they are not talking to who they need to talk to. We say ‘get closer to the bases to the operations’, if you want to talk about reality you have to get close to the trench, ”he claimed.

For his part, he sees good intentions in the Government but insists that there is still a lot of corruption within the health system inherited from previous leaders, which causes, among other things, that the supplies do not get to where they have to.

"We are not against you, we want to work together, but the corruption is still there. Get closer to the workers, ”Soto told the Executive.

COVID-19 in Mexico: 9,779 deaths and 87,512 confirmed cases, according to a report by the CNDH, on May 21 and 29, the penitentiary centers in the country added 136 cases of the disease caused by the new coronavirus
                                May 30, 2020

The Ministry of Health (SSa) reported this Saturday, May 2930, that the accumulated COVID-19 infections are 87,512. Furthermore, since the beginning of the epidemic, Mexico has suffered 9,779 fatalities.

For specialists consulted by El Universal, lifting the confinement is premature. According to Alejandro Mac?as, a member of the commission of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) to treat the coronavirus, he assured that Mexico would have to spend at least 15 days with a decrease in infections to lift the quarantine.

“In no way have we concluded the first wave (of contagion) in fact we have not even reached the plateau. According to daily technical reports, there is no evidence that the number of infections is already decreasing. What we have seen is that the epidemic is on the up and at least two weeks should go by without these increases to speak of a lack of confidence, "said the specialist.

Although he considered that it is good for the government to implement a traffic light to know which entities can resume activities and which cannot, the researcher assured that since there is no stable epidemic in the country, it is difficult to draw a projection.

"It seems to me that right now we cannot put an agenda on the virus (...) the pandemic is not yet going to make those kinds of plans," he said.

On the other hand, one of the sectors of the population that is suffering significantly from the health emergency caused by COVID-19 is that of prisons throughout the country, since while the federal government is preparing to restart activities, the Commission National Human Rights (CNDH) warned that since May 21, the number of people infected increased by six.

According to a report by this Commission, on May 21 and 29, prison centers added 136 cases of the disease caused by the new coronavirus. A week earlier, from May 12 to 20, only 21 cases had been counted. That is, there were 15 contagions daily in the last nine days.

Although the number of people infected with the disease shows a dire context, non-governmental organizations working with this sector suggest that state governments may report underreporting that does not correspond to the actual number of cases.

"The panorama is quite worrying, especially due to the lack of information and actions to deal with the coronavirus inside the penitentiary centers," Jos? Luis Guti?rrez, director of Legal Assistance for Human Rights (AsiLegal), told the El Universal newspaper. ..
