The nasty novel virus, known as COVID-19, has wreaked havoc across various Lithuanian industries, although the toll of the Lithuanians infected with the coronavirus, at 36 as of Thursday afternoon, is relatively modest to what Latvia and especially Estonia, the other two Baltic neighbours are seeing.

On Thursday, March 19, there were 86 cases of the virus in Latvia and 263 people have tested positive for it in Estonia.

        Lithuania under quarantine

Lithuania has been under quarantine for two weeks as of March 16. Mandatory self-isolation includes zero arrival of foreigners into the country, except people delivering goods, crew members, family members of Lithuanian citizens, people who have the right to live and work in Lithuania. Meanwhile, Lithuanian citizens are not allowed to leave the country, unless they live or work abroad.

Another 16 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Lithuania on Saturday evening, bringing the country's total to 99, the Health Ministry said.

One of those infected is a pregnant resident doctor at Santaros Clinics in Vilnius, the hospital's general director, Feliksas Jankevičius, confirmed to LRT.lt.

The woman worked at a family medical centre. It has been closed as of Saturday after another member of staff was diagnosed with Covid-19 on Friday.

"Our infectious decease department, where patients diagnosed with Covid-19 are taken, have been wearing special protective equipment since day one," he said.
Although in hindsight, all staff at the Santaros Clinics should have been supplied with protective equipment, he told LRT.lt. All medical workers will be equipped with special protective means as of Monday, he added.
