BEIRUT, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon's number of COVID-19 infections increased on Saturday by 75 to 2,775 while death toll remained 40, the National News Agency reported.
Lebanon has seen lately a resurgence in COVID-19 infections due to arrival of patients from other countries who did not commit to proper precautionary measures and neglect by those who were seen standing in crowds near shops.

The Presidency of the Republic demands that Louay Ismail be considered a martyr of Lebanon

At the opening of the Council of Ministers which took place this morning, the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, asked that the 32-year-old doctor Louay Ismail, who died from the COVID19 coronavirus yesterday, be considered as a martyr of Lebanon.
The latter would have fallen while performing his humanitarian duty, underlines the head of state.
This is the first doctor to die from this infection. He also did not suffer from any chronic illness.
The doctor, originally from the town of Al-Zaloutiya located in the region of Tire, was allegedly infected by one of his patients under his care at the Lebanese Italian Hospital in Tire in southern Lebanon. He had been transferred to the Nabih Berri Governmental Hospital in Nabatiyeh after developing pneumonia linked to the virus.
Commenting on the announcement of this death, the Ministry of Health estimated that it intervenes following late treatment of the patient. Lebanon now exceeds 2,000 local cases, with 2,072 cases and 784 cases of foreign origin. A total of 2,856 people have been infected since the discovery of a first case on February 21. 1,515 people have been cured and 1,341 people are currently testing positive, a figure that is still on the rise. 69 people are currently hospitalized including 14 in a condition considered serious, while the number of deaths was officially 40 people to which is now added this hospital doctor.
