In Milan, 76% died in March more than a year ago

How many people died of coronaviruses in Milan? The answer to date is unknown. We know the official data, provided by the Region, on the number of deaths in Lombardy (7593: by far the most affected among the Italian regions), the number of cases (44,773), the number of cases in Milan (3,815): but the the number of deaths in the city has not yet been disclosed.

On Thursday 2 April, however, the Councilor for Civil Services of the Municipality Roberta Cocco provided two interesting data. Overall, in the quarter January-March there were 4,459 deaths in Milan in 2020, 3,888 in 2019 and 3,929 in 2018: growth, between 2019 and 2020, is + 14.7%. The figure becomes significantly higher if we observe the month of March alone: this year there have been 2,155 deaths - almost half of the entire January-March quarter, 76.1% more than a year ago and 78, 7% more than two years ago. At the moment, there are no certainties that all these deaths are caused by the coronavirus. In recent days, local estimates have emerged, such as in the Bergamo area; or national - which provide much higher data than official data on the number of positive cases and deaths.

Due to the excessive number of deaths, however, after being forced to align the coffins on the benches in the church of the Niguarda hospital in recent days, the crematorium of Lambrate was now forced to close temporarily: the expectations have become too much long (currently 20 days on average) and this constitutes a health and hygiene risk. The closure was established today by an order of the Municipality of Milan, in line with the indications of the Ministry of Health.

Brescia, about 1,500 elderly people killed Half for viruses and flu-like illness

In Emilia Romagna 35%, in Veneto 13.5%, in other regions 26%. In Lombardy, out of 6,000 RSA residents surveyed, 1,130 deaths in two months, 19.2%. Applying this percentage to the total number of guests in Brescia's RSA (eight thousand) would lead to a record estimate of 1,500 deaths, half of which for Covid19 or with flu-like symptoms. Among the critical aspects highlighted by the survey, the difficulty of finding personal protective equipment (86%), the absence of health personnel due to illness (36%), the difficulty of transferring residents affected by Covid-19 to hospital and the difficulty in isolating residents affected by Covid-19 (27%).
