The coronavirus has claimed its first Israeli fatality over the weekend – an 88-year-old man from Jerusalem who contracted the virus at the nursing where he resided.

JERUSALEM
Israel's coronavirus infections rose to 1,656 on Tuesday after 214 new cases were detected, according to the health ministry.
A statement by the ministry said 31 patients are in critical condition, while 49 have recovered from the virus.
Israel confirmed its first death from the disease on Friday.

Israeli health officials reported a third death from the novel coronavirus on Tuesday.
An Israeli male, 87, suffering from chronic disease died at Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital in Jerusalem.
Earlier Tuesday, officials reported a second death when a 67-year-old woman, who had “a serious preexisting medical condition,” died at the Wolfson Medical Center in Holon.

Three more Israelis died from coronavirus on Sunday, bringing the total number of victims to 15, as numbers of infected people surpassed 4,000 and discussions about increasing restrictions on the public continued.On Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and officials from the Health, Finance and Defense ministries shifted their focus slightly to considering restrictions on some specific pockets of society, such as the haredim (ultra-Orthodox), many who continue to ignore certain guidelines.
“What is happening in Bnei Brak is like Italy,” one doctor from a major hospital in the center of the country told Channel 12 over the weekend. “Almost every haredi who is tested for the virus is found positive. There are families with 100% infection. The Health Ministry needs to go door to door, and take the sick from their homes. If not, in another few weeks, we will see them coming in by masses.”
On Monday, the Defense and Health ministries, the Home Front Command, two Rami Levy grocery stores and one Victory supermarket will pilot a new program in which shoppers will be tested for coronavirus upon entering the stores. If the pilot is successful, this could become the new normal.

JERUSALEM, March 30 (Xinhua) -- The number of novel coronavirus cases in Israel has risen to 4,347, the Israeli Ministry of Health said Monday.
Later on Monday, Shamir Medical Center in central Israel announced the death of a 58-year-old coronavirus patient. The hospital noted that he died as a result of other serious diseases and not due to the virus.
The death toll of the COVID-19 has reached 16 in Israel...
