The first case of COVID-19 reported in Iceland

An Icelandic male in his fifties has been placed in solitary confinement at Landspitali after a sample of him proved positive for a new coronary virus (COVID-19). The man is not seriously ill but shows typical symptoms of COVID-19 disease (cough, fever and bone pain).

According to information from the news agency, the man was in a group with eight other Icelanders, of whom six are resident in Iceland. Someone from the group in this country has a home quarantine. Earlier today, the Chief Epidemiologist reported that 65 samples had been examined by the National Hospital of Virology and Virology. They all turned out to be negative.

No one is hospitalised, nor is anyone seriously ill. Samples taken from those quarantined are still being tested, so there is a chance more confirmed cases may arise from this group...

V?sir now reports that there are a total of 90 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Iceland at the time of this writing. Samples have been taken from 830 people so far, and 700 people are in home quarantine.

One individual is described as seriously ill, an elderly man who has a very high temperature. He is currently in hospital.

Of these 90 individuals, four of them contracted it due to a so-called “third-degree infection”; contracting the virus from someone who contracted the virus from someone else, who brought the disease in from abroad.
