New confirmed coronavirus cases sharply increased to 43 in the last 24 hours with 36 of them to have been detected at the entrance gates of Greece, health authorities announced on Monday evening. The total infections increased to 3,562 with 54.6% of the infected to be men.

One should take into consideration that authorities did not recorded all new cases on Sunday, – just 9 – and most likely transferred the number from Sunday to Monday.

Authorities announced no new death on Monday for the sixth consecutive day. However, one 83-year-old woman reportedly died in a hospital in Athens after the daily Covid-19 bulletin was issued.

More than 100 new cases of coronavirus have been imported to Greece since it started allowing foreign tourists from the start of this month. Fears of a surge of infections are mounting as Brits are set to be allowed back into the country from July 15.

Greece has managed to keep infections generally low, with the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic hitting 3,622 with just 193 fatalities. But authorities have said 103 of 183 confirmed cases from July 1-7 came from overseas visitors.

GREECE has reported their highest number of new coronavirus cases since the pandemic began, as infections in the country soar.

While there are just 5,623 overall cases confirmed, 202 cases were confirmed yesterday - the highest since the beginning of the year.

The jump in infections could lead to Greece being placed onto the UK travel bin list, just weeks after Spain was.

Despite this, Brits are still flocking to the holiday islands.

                          .
Greece’s government has announced additional restrictions because of a flare-up of coronavirus cases and a jump in the number of critically ill people in the country. Government ministers say much of the problem can be traced to foreign tourists. On Sunday, Greece announced 203 new confirmed coronavirus cases, bringing its total to 5,623, with an overall death toll of 212. All events with standing customers or spectators have been ordered canceled across the country.

Bars, restaurants and cafes will have to shut from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. in several locations, including popular tourist destinations, including Mykonos and Santorini.

Tourists are not the only source of new cases. Impatient young Greeks eager to socialize and to party are another cause of anxiety for Greek ministers. This week health minister Vassilis Kikilias appealed to the young to wear masks and maintain social distance. “Once more I appeal to young people and to citizens who are not adhering to personal protective measures to consider their responsibility toward vulnerable groups, our other citizens and toward the country,” he said.
