Ecuador registers 3,486 official deaths and 40,966 positives from COVID-19
            06/03/2020 19:12

Quito, June 3 (EFE) .- Ecuador reported this Wednesday 3,486 official deaths and 2,221 probable deaths, in addition to 40,966 positive cases for COVID-19, according to data from the Ministry of Public Health.

Since the first case was reported on February 29, a total of 119,375 samples for the coronavirus have been collected, between PCR and rapid tests, with which 54,334 cases were discarded.

The data by provinces, which are based solely on the PCR tests, indicate that the Guayas coast continues to lead with 14,184 positives and 1,430 deaths, followed by the Andean region of Pichincha, whose capital is Quito, with 4,166 cases and 319 deaths.

These provinces are followed in order by Manab? with 2,516 cases, Los R?os with 1,591, El Oro with 1,213, and Santo Domingo de los T?schilas with 1,138 positives, while the rest of the provinces have less than 1,000 cases each, although Azuay reaches the 930s.

The official daily bulletin states that 16,418 infected are stable in home isolation and 508 hospitalized in stable condition, while 259 are admitted under reserved prognosis.

Ecuador is in a process of phase change of the epidemiological strategy to face the COVID-19 pandemic and move from mass isolation to social distancing, with the gradual and coordinated lifting of the restrictions that came into effect with the state of exception on March 16.

The capital, Quito, today began a new stage of de-escalation and went from red to yellow at the so-called epidemiological traffic light, which has resulted in the resumption of public transport, an extended curfew schedule between 21:00 and 5:00 and more commercial and labor activity that has been seen in the streets of the city, inhabited by 3 million people. Another 4,725 patients have recovered, 5,737 were discharged from hospital and 12,887 were discharged epidemiologically.
Ecuador is in a process of phase change of the epidemiological strategy to move from mass isolation to social distancing, with the gradual and coordinated lifting of the restrictions that entered into force with the state of emergency on March 16.
Of the 221 cantons that the country has, some 130 are in yellow and two in green in the de-escalation phase, inspired by an epidemiological traffic light that marks the reactivation process by colors (red, yellow or green).
The capital, Quito, went from red to yellow about ten days ago, which has resulted, for example, in the resumption of public transport and in-person resumption of certain jobs, although with occupancy limitations.
Ecuador also renewed on Monday the flights between the three main cities of the country, Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca, while tomorrow, Tuesday, a first flight Quito-Amsterdam is planned, although this activity is pending authorizations in other countries and from more comprehensive sanitary measures.
