Quito [EFE]. The Government of Ecuador reported on Friday that the number of deaths from coronavirus in the country has risen to seven and that there are 426 patients who have tested positive for COVID-19, which is 16 percent more than the day before.

The Secretary of Risk Management, Alexandra Ocles, indicated in a virtual press conference that in the last few hours two people died, both men, the first one was 61 years old and that it corresponded to a so-called "imported case", as he contracted the illness abroad before returning to the country.

The other deceased is a 48-year-old person who was in asylum in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) under permanent medical surveillance.

In addition, Ocles explained that there are 711 people "suspected" of having contracted the coronavirus and that 1,213 have been placed in an epidemiological fence for having been in the close circle of people infected with the virus.

He stressed that three people have recovered and that the province with the most infected with COVID-19 is the coastal of Guayas, whose capital is Guayaquil, with 318 cases, followed by Pichincha (35), Los R?os (19), Azuay (18 ), Manab? (9), Loja (5), Bol?var (4), Ca?ar, Morona Santiago, Sucumb?os and Chimborazo (3), El Oro and Imbabura (2) and Santa Elena and Santo Domingo de los Ts?chilas (1)...

The number of COVID-19 cases rises to 532 in Ecuador
      Updated 2020-03-22 07:45:52 | Spanish. xinhuanet. com

QUITO, March 21 (Xinhua) - The Ecuadorian government today raised to 532 the number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in the country.

In a national chain report, the director of the National Risk and Emergency Management Service, Alexandra Ocles, specified that so far the virus has left seven fatalities.

He noted that "there is a 5 percent increase compared to the report we gave in the morning" today, when the number of positive cases of COVID-19 was 506.

"We see gradual growth," said Ocles, noting that the trend will undoubtedly increase as the evidence is confirmed or discarded.

He explained that, according to the latest official statistics, with a cutoff at 17:00 local time (22:00 GMT), there are 870 suspected cases in Ecuador and 1,213 people in the epidemiological fence.

He stated that so far 2,051 samples have been taken for COVID-19 and 649 cases have been discarded.

According to the official, the virus is present in 16 of the 24 provinces of the South American country, where the province of Guayas (southwest) continues to concentrate the highest number of cases of infection with 397.

They are followed by the province of Pichincha (center-north), whose capital is Quito, with 50 cases and the province of Los R?os (west) with 22.

In Guayas, due to the escalation of contagion cases, the government has tightened the curfew that has been in force in the country since last Tuesday, under the state of emergency.

At the site, curfew hours were extended from 4:00 p.m. local time (9:00 p.m. GMT) to 5:00 a.m. (10:00 GMT) the following day until further notice.

That same schedule was extended today to the provinces of Santa Elena (west) and the island of Galapagos, while in the rest of the country the curfew begins at 19:00 local time (01:00 GMT) at 05:00 (10:00 GMT) the next day.

In addition, the National Committee for Emergency Operations (COE), in charge of managing the health emergency, analyzes the possibility of declaring Guayas in a special security zone, since the presence of the virus is in phase three of community contagion.

Ocles said that the virus "can reach us all and that must be taken into account", so he insisted on the importance of citizens maintaining prevention and hygiene measures.

He also mentioned that it is key to monitor the epidemiological fence and that those who are suspected of being carriers of the virus responsibly comply with the isolation so as not to generate complications.

The deceased amount to 27 and 1,049 infections by COVID-19 in Ecuador
            Tuesday March 24, 2020 Society

The cases of contagion by coronavirus in Ecuador amounted to 1,049, while those who died from the virus reached 27, reported Tuesday the national director of Risk and Emergency Management, Alexandra Ocles.

According to statistics released by the National Risk and Emergency Management Service (SNGRE), 807 of the cases correspond to the province of Guayas, the most affected by the disease, followed by Pichincha, with 71.

Ocles specified that 1,347 people are under epidemiological siege, 1,184 cases are under suspicion, 1,211 were discarded and 3 recovered from the disease.

By provinces, in addition to Guayas, whose capital is Guayaquil, and Pichincha, with the head of Quito, 32 cases have been reported in Los R?os, 30 in Manab?, 28 in Azuay, 14 in El Oro, 9 in Bol?var and Chimborazo, 7 in Santo Domingo de los Ts?chilas, Ca?ar y Loja and 6 in Santa Elena, Sucumb?os and Morona Santiago.

Likewise, 4 are registered in Imbabura, 3 in Esmeraldas, 2 in Tungurahua and one in Cotopaxi.

Although they are pending confirmation by the national authorities, the Galapagos Governing Council reported that 4 positive cases have been registered in the Ecuadorian archipelago, that they were imported and that they are correctly isolated.

The head of Risk Management indicated that her situation in those islands is being analyzed and that in a new report this afternoon she will provide data in this regard.

He recalled that the evolution of the figures responds to the fact that they correspond to "samples taken 13 days ago" and that in the next few days they could stabilize once the entry into force of the isolation measures is confirmed, which he said, "allow a lesser possibility of contagion".

Ocles revealed that the age range of the deceased is between 52 and 79 years, with an estimated average between 60 and 65 years.

Also that most of the deaths were caused by acute respiratory complications in hospitals, and that in two cases, the fatalities died at home and another in an ambulance on the way to a medical center.

Home Highlights Coronavirus affects 21 of the 24 provinces of Ecuador
                By HGV - March 25, 2020

A total of 21 of the 24 provinces of Ecuador register a case of coronavirus, according to official data, which on Wednesday put 1,173 positives for COVID-19 and 28 deaths

Alexandra Ocles, head of the National Risk and Emergency Management Service (SNGRE), indicated that there are 1,562 suspected cases, that 1,346 have been discarded and that 3 have been recovered.

On other possible recovered cases, Ocles said in a virtual press conference that there are several people who have ended the days of mandatory preventive isolation, but are conducting tests for possible viral load.

He explained that they no longer provide information on the epidemiological fence because in the most affected provinces -Guayas and Pichincha- the "virus is community", and "monitoring epidemiological fence does not make any more sense."

                THREE AMAZONIAN PROVINCES WITHOUT CASES

According to SNGRE statistics, of the total number of infected, 990 are stable in home isolation and 152 are hospitalized, 65 of which have a reserved prognosis.

The province of Guayas, whose capital is Guayaquil, has the highest number of infections (859), followed by Pichincha -whose capital is Quito- (99), Los R?os (40), Manab? (38) and Azuay (31).

The Galapagos Islands, located about a thousand kilometers from the Ecuadorian continental coasts, declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) in 1978 as Natural Heritage of Humanity, register four cases.

The only provinces that are not affected are Napo, Orellana and Zamora Chinchipe, all located in the Amazon region.

The official commented that it is not possible to speak in general of a slowdown in infections because it is a "complex moment yet, we are going through a sensitive moment in the process."

                SANITARY SYSTEM

Regarding the health system, he noted that there are 9,805 beds available nationwide and 259 intensive care units established so far.

"We are considering other areas that can be implemented for the care, especially of those patients who have mild symptoms and who need to be in isolation," he said.

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health has reported the adaptation of a hundred beds in a coliseum in the coastal province of Guayas (southwest).

The location will also serve as a medical isolation space for confirmed patients, he said in a statement.

Ocles stressed that the health system "is not yet saturated", so he insisted that preventive measures be strictly followed.

By virtue of an executive decree, the most affected province has been declared a "special security zone" and a joint task force has been formed under the name "Guayas", according to the Joint Command of the Armed Forces.

                Wider curfew

The President of Ecuador, Len?n Moreno, has arranged that, starting this Wednesday, a new curfew schedule will apply throughout the national territory, which will run between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., "except for activities essential ”.

Until Tuesday, the curfew in the country, except in Guayas, the most affected province, as well as Santa Elena and the Galapagos, was from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

In the three aforementioned provinces, the curfew until Tuesday was in effect from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

The head of state warned that "whoever fails to comply will be punished!", On the first occasion with the payment of a $ 100 fine, for the second time with a basic salary ($ 400) and for the third time with a prison sentence. EFE

QUITO.- The Ministry of Health of Ecuador updated this Wednesday to 1,211 infected people, and 29 the deceased, due to the pandemic that has spread through 21 of the 24 provinces of the country.

In addition, the health authorities have registered 1,692 people with suspected coronavirus and 1,387 who have been ruled out of the disease.

The head of the National Secretariat for Risk Management, Alexandra Ocles, in a virtual press conference, indicated that it is estimated that in the most populated provinces of the country, the coast of Guayas (whose capital is Guayaquil) and the Andean region of Pichincha ( whose capital is Quito), the transmission is "community"; that is to say, that the focus of contagion is unknown and can be anywhere.

According to the Ministry's statistics, Guayas, the most punished province, reports 885 positive cases, followed by Pichincha with 108, Los R?os (40), Manab? (38), Azuay (31) and El Oro (17).

Ocles, after recalling that the country is under a state of emergency and a fifteen-hour curfew (between two in the afternoon and five in the morning), assured that this "is a delicate moment due to the level of infections ", so precautionary measures must be taken.

He regretted that in some areas of the country, such as in Guayas, sectors of the population do not abide by the curfew and there have been altercations with the law enforcement authorities that monitor the massive and compulsory home isolation.

Hours earlier, the Minister of Government (Interior), Mar?a Paula Romo, had indicated that nearly a thousand people had been arrested for failing to comply with the curfew, which was decreed on March 16 and which was extended to fifteen hours today. .

"Not only with arrests" can the expansion of the COVID-19 contagion be stopped, but "the cooperation and discipline of citizens are required," Romo demanded of the population.

He recalled that "at no time of the day, no citizen is authorized to go out" and that only certain activities in the health, security, food supply, strategic public services, financial and export sectors are allowed to be carried out, during hours exceptional in the morning.

"The rest of the country cannot go out at any time," insisted the minister, specifying that people who have to go out into the street at the allowed times must do so protected with masks and latex gloves.

The best thing will be to stay at home, because "if we move, the virus moves with us" and, therefore, increases the risk of contagion, as has already been demonstrated in the country and in other nations of the world.

By provinces, infections are distributed as follows: Galapagos and Esmeraldas, four cases each, Manab? 38, Santa Elena seven, Guayas (whose capital is Guayaquil), with 1,000, Los R?os 52, Santo Domingo eight, El Oro 20 , Carchi three, Imbabura eight and Pichincha (Quito) 121.

Ocles expressed his concern that there are still crowds of people, especially in Quito.

In this sense, he mentioned the case of the markets and asked those responsible and the citizens to allow them to operate "providing the necessary security" for both sellers and buyers in compliance with the regulations and measures established by the authorities.

Santiago Tara after, national director of Risk Management of the Ministry of Public Health, pointed out that people under house isolation by COVID-19 represent 88% of all positives, and that hospitalized 10%.

Those who are admitted and their health condition is favorable represent 56%, in total 74 patients, and those who are under reserved prognosis are 58 patients, which represents 44%.

Ecuadorean authorities have removed 100 corpses from homes in the city of Guayaquil in three days, the interior minister said on Friday.

QUITO/GUAYAQUIL: Ecuadorean authorities have removed 100 corpses from homes in the city of Guayaquil in three days, the interior minister said on Friday, following residents’ complaints that they have no way to dispose of relatives’ remains amid the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

The coastal city has the country’s largest concentration of Covid-19 cases as well as a heavy presence of military officers enforcing curfew prompted by a nationwide health emergency declaration.

Interior Minister Maria Paula Romo said on Friday that the curfew had restricted funeral homes’ operating hours and left some family members with no choice but to keep deceased relatives in their homes.

“Some of these deaths are related to the coronavirus and others were not,” she said in an interview with online broadcaster MaxTv...

Ecuador, with 1,962 cases of COVID-19, extends suspension of working hours

Citizens of the city of Quito were registered this Monday by queuing and keeping a safe distance, in the parking lot of one of the main supermarkets in the Ecuadorian capital, amid containment measures in the face of the COVID-19 virus pandemic. EFE

Sixty people have died so far from coronavirus and 1,962 are infected in Ecuador, where the suspension of working hours has been extended until April 5, authorities reported Monday.

According to the Government, with the only exception of the Amazonian province of Napo, the remaining 23 of the country register some case of contagion.

More than 70% of them are concentrated in the province of Guayas (1,396), followed by Pichincha (188), Los R?os (60), Azuay (57), Manab? (50) and El Oro (30), while the rest they have less than 30 cases.

Most deaths have occurred in Guayas (38), followed by Los R?os and Pichincha, with five each, among others.

Currently, there are 3,083 suspected cases of COVID-19 in Ecuador, where 2,223 cases have been ruled out.

In view of this situation, in a virtual press conference, the Government Minister, Mar?a Paula Romo, pointed out that the Emergency Operations Committee (COE) has decided to "suspend until 5 April the suspension of working hours", which was initially set until tomorrow, March 31.

This suspension will continue "keeping basic activities running," said Romo, recalling that next Sunday "three weeks of the most restrictive measures" will be met, which include a fifteen-hour curfew throughout the country, while in Quito there are even restricting the use of public space.

The official advanced that throughout the week it will be assessed whether the measure is prolonged again and whether there is any differentiation by province, region or city.

Faced with several complaints, especially in the province of Guayas, about problems with the removal of bodies, the authorities asked the public for peace of mind because there is an established protocol.

Romo announced that they will prepare a weekly bulletin on deaths, specifying the provinces and causes "regardless of whether or not they have a positive COVID-19 test."

And he recalled that, under normal circumstances, there are 6,000 deaths in the country every month and around 71,000 a year.

"At the beginning of this year, January 2020, in Guayaquil we had 828 deaths. Of those, 46% died in their homes," he said, indicating that many cases have accumulated since funeral homes prefer that the Armed Forces do the removal of the bodies for fear of possible contagion.

On the other hand, Romo indicated that private institutions will also join the fight against the coronavirus although, in a first phase, the Government's strategy was to refer all cases to the public health system.

Precisely this Monday, the Ombudsman proposed to apply a declaration of use and public service for clinics, private hospitals and hotels due to the scope of the health emergency.
