    Garut ? About 300 poultries, including chickens, ducks and birds, had died in Kampung Warung, Banyuresmi, Garut, West Java, within last week. Laboratory test showed those birds died of bird flu H5N1 virus.

    Chief of Banyuresmi, Wawan Ridwan said the poultries had suddenly died without any sign of sickness, that people took it as a common death.

    Meanwhile, Head of Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health Division, Livestock Service of Kabupaten Garut, Dida Kardiana, confirmed about the existence of bird flu case in Garut. Rapid test showed the dead birds got H5N1 infection.

    For preventing any possible disease transmission to human, Livestock Service is now socializing the culling plan with locals in Kampung Warung.

In august 2006 2 human cases were confirmed, but there were a lot of rumors about dozens of other cases, including unconfirmed H2H transmisson. (Search: "Cikelet / Garut Cluster"). Today the authorities immediatly react by providing more Tamiflu to the local health centers.
