QUITO, Ecuador, July. 10, 2009 .- The Ecuadorian Minister of Health, Caroline Chang, on Friday confirmed the deaths of two people due to influenza A in the country, informed the Chair.
"This is a patient of 28 years who became ill in a rural community in Cuenca Canton (Azuay) and one patient in the province of Tungurahua, said on its website, without giving further details.
The Ministry of Health established the immediate execution of fences and maintains epidemiological warning and mitigation strategy in the wake of the declaration of Phase 6 by the World Health Organization (WHO).
This strategy includes the pursuit and care of patients more vulnerable to the H1N1 virus, such as those with chronic diseases, said the Chair.
Just today, the Ministry of Health reported that it was decided to intensify epidemiological surveillance at entry points into the country to prevent the spread of influenza A, of which 218 cases were confirmed in this Andean country.
The decision was made this week at the Seventh Session of the National Emergency Operations (COE), who also chose to keep track of those special people who show symptoms and have had contact with confirmed cases.
Guayas province, whose capital is Guayaquil, is the most affected by the H1N1 virus with more than a hundred cases, but have also been confirmed sick with the evil in the provinces of Pichincha, El Oro, Manabi Azuay, Canar, Chimborazo, Tungurahua, Pastaza, Carchi, Esmeraldas and Loja
